Mary Anne – Country Rock Storyteller with Soul
Mary Anne is a heartfelt voice rising out of Central Alberta, delivering a powerful blend of country and rock that’s as grounded as it is emotionally stirring. With roots in songwriting that trace back to 2009 and a vocal journey that began in 2006, Mary Anne brings authenticity, grit, and soul to every lyric she pens and every stage she steps on.
As the lead vocalist, lyricist, and rhythm guitarist for the band Mixed Messages—a new collaboration launched in 2024—Mary Anne continues to evolve her sound, keeping her love for storytelling at the heart of her music. Her songs reflect life’s raw honesty: the highs, the heartbreaks, and the healing in between.
Mary Anne’s debut album Bucketlist dropped in 2018, marking her official entry into the Canadian country scene. That same year, she released the single “Kiss Me In the Rain” to radio, a track that resonated with fans for its vulnerability and melodic strength. Her style—a fusion of traditional country roots and rock energy—sets her apart in a genre hungry for both nostalgia and new blood.
Over the years, her talent has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, she received Honours at both the 43rd Annual Ivan Daines Country Music “Pick” Nic and the 20th Alberta Men & Women of Country Music Awards, two major acknowledgments of her growing impact on the western Canadian music scene.
In 2025, her momentum continued with a nomination for Breakout Artist of the Year at the Elite Music Awards, ultimately placing 4th overall—a strong statement of her rising influence and the undeniable connection she builds with her audience.
With Mixed Messages, Mary Anne has brought new energy to her live shows, performing regularly throughout Central Alberta. Her commanding stage presence, heartfelt lyrics, and signature voice—equal parts smoky and sweet—make her a standout act, whether she’s playing intimate acoustic sets or full-band gigs.
Whether she’s singing about love lost in a storm, chasing dreams on dusty roads, or dancing under prairie skies, Mary Anne’s music invites listeners into a space where they can feel, remember, and be moved. She doesn’t just sing songs—she lives them.
“She has been described as a cross between Joan Jett and Carrie Underwood or Shania Twain meets Pat Benatar.” - Paul Cowley
“Message's songs fall somewhere between Alt Country and Pop, embodying moments of Shania's panache but with an added 'down home' informality that allow for the frivolity and more rock approach of songs like "Tall, Dark & Chevy." But across the entire album, there's certainly a commercially appealing aspect to her music.” - Wiley Koepp
“This is one of six CDs that I keep in my vehicle. I play it over and over! My favorite song, from the first time I heard it, continues to be "Sweet Noise." It is about the loss of a loved one...a beautiful, tender tribute to what once was. You will NOT be disappointed in ANY song on the album. I LOVE them all!” - Vydelle - Red Deer
